- The first step in a space clearing is to clarify your intention -- what is the general feeling or ambience that you want to purge from the space, and what do you want to call in?
- The next step is to get some support. Even if you are skilled at working with subtle energy, it is generally not advisable to attempt a space clearing in your own home or office all by yourself, as it can be exhausting to shift a pattern that has a web of connection to your own energy.
- The day before you clear the space, clean the whole place as thoroughly from top to bottom. Sometimes when there is stuck energy, a place never feels completely clean, but anyway do the best you can.
- The day of the ceremony, first take a few moments to simply relax and quiet your mind. Breathe deeply and notice the sensations of your physical body.
- When you are ready to begin, place some bowls of salt around the house, as salt has the function of absorbing negative chi.
- Now, release stagnant energy through the use of sound. You can use bells, drums, or simply clap your hands to get the desired effect. Walk around the space slowly and use your instrument to send sound vibrations into all the corners of the room.
- Next purify the space through the use of fire. The traditional way is to burn incense or sage, but if you are allergic to these, you can also place candles generously throughout the space and simply let them burn for awhile.
- After this purification by fire, open up all the windows to allow fresh air to circulate into the space, and dispose of the salt, by either burying it or flush it down the toilet. Relax for a few moments and allow the air to clear.
- When you are ready, you can bless the space with water and call in your new intentions. You may want to put some spring water in a small bowl and sprinkle it throughout the room with your fingertips, or place some water with essential oils in a spritzer bottle and spray it throughout the room.
- Finally, ground your intentions by placing a symbol of the earth element in the space, such as green plant, a crystal, or a meaningful object that has some history for you. Place the object carefully while focusing on your intentions, and leave the object there for at least a couple of weeks to ensure that your intentions have a chance to fully root themselves in the space.
